BERTANI Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2003

HK$1,598.00

Some consider Bertani as the inventor of modern Amarone. They work on the purity of the wine’s fruit, its territory and its tradition. The wine is built on acid and structure, not on sweetness and extract.

“The 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, enveloping wine loaded with wild cherries, licorice, new leather and dried flowers, not to mention considerable personality. The tannins are just a touch rough around the edges, and I am not sure they will ever soften given the heat of the vintage, but the 2003 should continue to drink well for at least a handful of years. Ideally the wine is best paired with hearty dishes.” – Wine Spectator, 93 Points

The Veneto, located in the north-east of Italy, is about five million population, ranking fifth in Italy. The tourists are very attracted by the capital, Venice but also Verona, the hometown of Giulietta!
It is also a region that contributes a significant percentage of the country’s total wine industry. With now 14 DOCGS & 24 DOCs, Veneto is producing every style of wine and with great success.
Soave, Valpolicella and Bardolino, Amarone, are produced there. The super trendy sparkling wine Prosecco has its origins and its best expression in the Veneto.
Much of Italy’s Pinot grigio hails from the Veneto, where the crisp and refreshing style is easy to maintain.

Bertani

The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 by the brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona.
Bertani’s impact on Veneto winemaking, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. The 1st official vintage of Amarone Classico, made with a natural appassimento, has been produced by Bertani in 1958.
Nowadays, with over 200 hectares of vineyards in the most suitable areas of the Verona province, today Bertani is still going on between tradition and innovation. In 2018, Bertani has been awarded “Winery of the Year” by Doctor Wine Daniele Cernilli.
