It is also a region that contributes a significant percentage of the country’s total wine industry. With now 14 DOCGS & 24 DOCs, Veneto is producing every style of wine and with great success.
Soave, Valpolicella and Bardolino, Amarone, are produced there. The super trendy sparkling wine Prosecco has its origins and its best expression in the Veneto.

The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 by the brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona.
Bertani’s impact on Veneto winemaking, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. The 1st official vintage of Amarone Classico, made with a natural appassimento, has been produced by Bertani in 1958.
Nowadays, with over 200 hectares of vineyards in the most suitable areas of the Verona province, today Bertani is still going on between tradition and innovation. In 2018, Bertani has been awarded “Winery of the Year” by Doctor Wine Daniele Cernilli.

"1972 is a wine that is extremely high toned, despite its age. Sandalwood, dried rose, camphor and campfire, with a ferruginous blowtorch to the finish. A drape of rancio-walnut and mahogany, akin to an aged Amontillado. While this bottle may be slightly out of nick, this is a wine of kaleidoscopic complexity, latent power, bags of life and oodles of charm." - James Suckling, 96 Points

" Conterno’s 2005 Barolo Cascina Francia has developed in a very pretty, delicate wine. Open-knit and supple, the 2005 offers good depth and vibrancy to match its silky, nuanced personality.
Without a doubt one of the greatest producers in Barolo. They only began producing Barolo in 1908 when the family was running a tavern near Monforte d’Alba.
In 1961 the two sons Giovanni and Aldo took over the family business. Aldo, however, did not share the house’s traditionalist philosophy and in 1969 he created his own estate (Aldo Conterno).
In 1974 with the purchase of the Cascina Francia vineyard, the winery put an end to the outsourcing of grapes. 1980 was the first vintage under the name Barolo Cascina Francia.
Today, the ultimate and purest expression of Barolo can be found in the bottles bearing Giacomo Conterno’s name. These wines are rich, powerful, well-structured and capable of long ageing in bottle.

" Is Giacomo Conterno’s 2006 Barolo Cascina Francia a traditional or modern Barolo? Great question. Texturally, the 2006 boasts marvelous depth and a level of pure intensity not often seen in traditionally made wines, yet the aromatics, tannin and overall structure are all super classic. This is another austere, tannic Barolo best left alone." - Vinous, 97+ Points

Directly imported from the winery.

"The 2004 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is drop-dead gorgeous. I have tasted the wine multiple times from barrel and three times from bottle and never been anything less than blown away. The 2004 is a subtle, layered Monfortino that captures the sheer elegance and finesse of this great vintage. It is sweet, perfumed, silky and utterly mind-blowing. From barrel it has always been a 100 point wine, but it has just been bottled and naturally a bit closed in on itself. Still, with some time in the glass its silky, perfumed fruit and dazzling class come to life. The 2004 is remarkably harmonious for such a young wine. Readers will have much fun debating which is the greatest Monfortino of recent years. Could it be the 1996, 1999 or 2002 for their huge structure and classicism? Or, is it the 1997 for its opulence? What if the dark horse 1998 and 2000 steal the show? Personally, I adore the 2001 and 2004 for their completeness, but the 2004 is the sexiest of them all. Sadly, 2004 is also the year Giovanni Conterno passed away, but one can't escape the feeling his spirit lives in this wine. Kudos to Roberto Conterno and his team for this magnificent, thrilling Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2044." - Wine Advocate, 100 Points
