South West France is a rather heterogeneous region in terms of its wines and how they are marketed. It is rare to see wines being sold as Vins du Sud-Ouest. With Bordeaux brightly highlighted wines, the south-western wine regions have been struggling for centuries to get recognition for their diverse & unique appellations.
The region’s wine portfolio, meanwhile, includes sweet wines from Jurancon; tannic, full-blooded reds from Cahors and Madiran; sparkling wines from Gaillac; and dry whites produced from a wide range of different grape varieties.

From the Arabic term "Son of the Wind" because the wind sweeps constantly around the grape clusters on Pantelleria. And the island's winds bring with them a profusion of fragrances so powerful that you can touch them!
Rich bouquet with outstanding aromas obtained from the dried grapes: apricots and candied orange peel. Maybe the best sweet wine from Italy?

"Hugely intense nose with notes of honey, flowers, ripe tropical fruits and spice. Displays a powerful umami, mushroom flavour on the palate. The balance between sweetness and acidity borders on perfection. Will age well but hard not to drink now." - Decanter, 97 Points.

According to legend, it was Dionysus (Bacchus) who brought pleasure to mankind, and wine to Sicily.

Donnafugata boasts vineyards in Contessa Entellina, nestled in the heart of western Sicily, as well as on Pantelleria island, situated between Sicily and Africa.

The 2016 harvest marked a milestone for Donnafugata, fulfilling the aspiration to produce wines in eastern Sicily with the distinguished Etna, Cerasuolo, and Frappato di Vittoria appellations.

The name Donnafugata, meaning ‘lady in flight,’ originates from the novel ‘Il Gattopardo’ and alludes to the tale of a queen who sought sanctuary in what are now the company’s vineyards, a narrative that also inspired the company’s logo.

Braida

Braida has been created in 1961 by Giacomo Bologna. He has been recognized as the first winemaker to raise the quality from a traditional table Barbera to a fine wine.

In 1982, Braida launched Bricco dell’ Uccellone, a “Super Barbera”.

The wines were aged in small, French oak barrels in order to compensate for Barbera’s lack of tannins. The result was a deeply flavourful, complex wine out of a variety normally considered to be an acidic filler.

Perfumes of blackberry preserves are evident, as are sweet spices, eucalyptus, vanilla and coffee. The tannins are sweet, fine and soft, and very well balanced. The finish has a long persistence of sensations of fruit, spices and roasted coffee.

"This is a proud protagonist of Vino Italiano. The 2015 Pàtrimo is a unique expression of Merlot that merits special attention in this excellent vintage. This is one of the finest editions ever produced, and I say that based on the extreme richness, complexity and finesse that unwraps before your eyes and taste buds. Make no mistake, this is a Big wine with a capital B. Its aromas of blackberry, spice and dark leather are delivered with super-sized exuberance and opulence. The mouthfeel is richly developed and centered. The mouthfeel needs to flesh out further. This is a bottle to put at the back of your cellar. 2018-2035" - Wine Advocate, 97 Points

One of the region’s greatest producers, Feudi di San Gregorio, carries its well-earned reputation as one of Italy’s most innovative wineries.

In 2005 Feudi di San Gregorio found three – just three – very old, very gnarled, tree-sized vines in an Aglianico vineyard in Taurasi. They weren’t Aglianico, that much was clear, but the rest was a mystery, until DNA analysis and analysis of the anthocyanin profile established that these were descendants of Sirica – the only ones (as far as anyone knows).

Feudi di San Gregorio

Feudi di San Gregorio was established in 1986 in Sorbo Serpico, a tiny village in Campania’s Irpinia region, near Mount Vesuvius.
One of the region’s greatest producers, Feudi di San Gregorio, carries its well-earned reputation as one of Italy’s most innovative wineries.
When many producers in Italy uprooted old vines in favour of international grape varieties, Feudi held fast to the local heritage and continued to cultivate native varieties like white Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Falanghina and red Aglianico.
Today, their wine production includes a wide range of whites and reds, with the pride of their production being Irpinia Aglianico DOC “Serpico”, a powerful red made from their historical “vineyard of the King”.

Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a sovereign island country in the West indies, located north/northeast of the island of Saint-Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2.
The French were the island’s first European settlers, thanks to a pirate named François Le Clerc, nicknamed “Jambe de Bois” because of his wooden leg.
England took control of the island from 1663 to 1667. In ensuing years, it was at war with France fourteen times, and the rule of the island changed frequently (it was ruled seven times each by the French and British). In 1814, the British took definitive control of the island.
Saint Lucia only became independent within the British Commonwealth in 1979.
The country is becoming more and more touristic. Two mountains, the Pitons, form the island’s most famous landmark on the western side of the island.
