Martinique

Martinique, a French Caribbean island, is mainly producing “Rhum Agricole”, which is obtained by distilling of sugar cane juice. This kind of rum is more aromatic. To produce 10 litres of rum roughly 100 kg of sugar cane needs to be processed.
In 1996, the Martinican Rhum Agricole obtained an AOC recognition, “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée’’ and is the only one so far.

Like in Cognac or Armagnac, there are strict ageing conditions & appellations:
*“Rhum Blanc Agricole Martinique”: min. 8 weeks in steel tanks
*“Rhum Vieux Agricole”: min. 3 years in oak casks of mac 650L
*“Rhum Extra Vieux Agricole, XO”: min. 6 years in oak casks
All ageing & bottling must be done on the island.
No Additional Flavor & No Additional Sugar

Rhum Clément

Rhum Clément has been established in 1887 when Homère Clément, physician and mayor of Le François in Martinique, purchased a 43-hectare sugar plantation, Domaine de L’Acajou.
Inspired by the enjoyment of great brandies while studying in his early years in Paris, Homère mimicked the distillers of the great Armagnac’s of southwestern France to perfect his method of rhum production known today as Rhum Agricole.Nowadays, Rhum Clément has 8000 barrels patiently aged in their 5 historical cellars and is a leading producer of A.O.C. Martinique Rhum Agricole, exporting to 80 different countries.
Around 8% of the volume of each barrel is lost every year due to « evaporation » (or Angel share). The aging is also unique, known to go 2.5 times faster than in Europe or Kentucky due to the high temperature and humidity.

SULLIVANS COVE Tasmanian Single Cask Malt Whisky “American Oak” (47.5% vol)

Tasmania

Tasmania, located 240 km to the south of the Australian mainland, was permanently settled in 1803 as a penal settlement of the British Empire. Approximately 75,000 convicts there before transportation ceased in 1853.
Among the colonizing population were the Irish and Scottish who started to produce whisky. The first legal distillery was opened in 1822.
As the majority of the colony’s grain crops were being distilled rather than processed into food, placing the population on brink of famine, the Governor had no option but to outlaw in 1837.
Although the prohibition did assist in restoring the colony’s food stocks, it did not put an end to the distilling of whisky.
This prohibition would last for over 150 years but in 1990, Bill Lark managed to get the law overturned and established Lark distillery in 1992, launching the modern Tasmanian whisky industry.

Sullivans Cove

Sullivans Cove Distillery was established in 1994 at Sullivans Cove, making it the second oldest whisky distillery in Tasmania. In the early days, the reputation of the distillery was poor but in 1999 new ownership vastly improved the quality of the whisky being produced.

The recognition arrived in 2014 when Sullivans Cove became the first non-Scottish-or-Japanese holder of the title “World’s Best Single Malt Whisky” by the World Whiskies Awards. Whisky lovers started to put Tasmania on their map and Sullivans Cove on their list.

Sullivans Cove Whisky is double distilled using Tasmanian barley with only the purest wilderness local water. The whisky is then matured in oak casks and allowed to settle and clear naturally. That is why the single malts retain full, creamy and lingering flavours.

Arran Island

Situated on the south-west coast of Scotland, Arran is only 432 km2 and a resident population of 4,629. Often referred to as “Scotland in Miniature”, the island is divided into highland and lowland areas and has been described as a “geologist’s paradise”.
The main industry on the island is tourism, with outdoor activities. The Arran Coastal Way was designated as one of Scotland’s Great Trails by Scottish Natural Heritage in June 2017.
The island is recognized as perfect for whisky production. The source –Loch na Davie –has been verified as amongst the purest in Scotland, a unique climate, Gulf Stream effect, can also contribute to rapid maturation.
In fact, the island has a rich history of distillation –first legal distillery on Arran in 1836. During the 19th century, there were more than 50 illicit stills on Arran but all disappeared.

Arran

Arran is one of Scotland’s newer distilling operations, but it has now been in existence for long enough to offer an 18-year-old core expression, though 10, 12 and 14-year-olds are also available, along with a number of cask finishes and regular limited releases.
Arran Distillers is owned by a group of private shareholders and the managing director is Euan Mitchell. As well as the distillery and associated warehousing on the Isle of Arran the company has its head office on a business park near Stirling, in Central Scotland.
The company also operates a second, newer distillery at Lagg, on the south side of the island.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic, east of the Dominican Republic, approximately 1,600 km southeast of Miami, Florida.
Puerto Rico is one of the biggest and best rum-producing nations in the world. The climate of Puerto Rico is just right for producing the sugar cane from which rum (or ron, as the locals know it) is made.
The spirit is also a big part of the island’s history. Juan Ponce de León first brought Creole sugar cane rootstocks from La Española (Dominican Republic) in 1506. Eleven years later, the first sugar mill was established in Añasco. Rum production began in the 1650s.
Today, more than 80% of the rum consumed in the USA hails from this island.

Don Q

In 1861, Don Juan Serrallés founded a small sugar cane plantation – the Hacienda Mercedita.
In 1865, he produced his first few casks of rum using a five-tray copper pot still he had imported from France. With that, the Serrallés family rum tradition had begun.
In 1934, the family launched Don Q. the brand is named for Don Quixote, the famous literary character from the family’s favorite novel.
In 1954, the original Piña Colada was created at The Caribe Hilton hotel in Old San Juan, by Ramon ‘Monchito’ Marrero using Don Q Gold rum!
Today, Serrallés 6^th generation is one of America’s oldest family-owned and operated companies.
The company is the leading rum producer in Puerto Rico
The brands have close to 70% market share in PR, selling over 1 million cases there.
