Named for the woodpeckers that inhabit the area, the vineyard is surrounded by oak and chestnut trees which protect the grapes from the cold northern wind.
The Gran Selezione title is Chianti’s version of a Grand Cru. It’s the highest possible designation for a wine from the Chianti Classico zone. To achieve Gran Selezione status the wine must be made entirely from a single estate.

Named after the wild boar of the region that both wiped out one of the first vintages and is a great match – as a ragu sauce with pasta!

"The Castello di Querceto 2016 Cignale is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a tiny part Merlot to soften it up. This is a plump, rich and nicely structured wine with a dark core of dense fruit, spice, dark blackberry and dried plum. The wine is structured and firm with good support for all that rich and dense oak fruit. Compared to the slightly softer 2015 vintage, this wine is more angular and tightly wound." - Wine Advocate, 94 Points

Grape: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot
