"The Salcheto 2024 Rosso is a lovely wine with class, aromatics and plenty of flavor. A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 8% Canaiolo and 7% Merlot, all organically farmed, it invites you to dive in thanks to aroma of wild strawberry, crunchy red cherry and star anise. The aromas follow over to the bright, easy-drinking palate along with bitter orange. Glossy tannins lend supple support." - Kerin O'Keefe, 91 Points

The name Fumin comes from the smoky grey colour of its berries, rich in bloom. This ancestral indigenous varietal is today vinified purely in Valle d’Aosta. Les Cretes was the first company to produce it in DOP in 1993.

"The dark-skinned Fumin grape was traditionally used as a blending agent, but it is now often featured as a monovarietal wine. The Les Crêtes 2018 Valle d'Aosta Fumin sits pretty in the glass, reflecting dark nuances of ruby and crimson. The wine shows fruity tones of plum and blackcurrant, but you also get a whiff of the crushed white peppercorn that I often find in the indigenous grapes of Italy. This release of about 14,000 bottles is lean-bodied and would easily pair with a wide assortment of local dishes, including the unforgettable pizzoccheri buckwheat pasta." - Wine Advocate, 92 Points

Grape: 100% Fumin

The region is renowned for the quality of its local salamis and meats giving rise to specialities such as carbonada, a dish composed of stewed meat wine, onions and spices. The cheeses are equally famous.
Home to Europe’s highest elevated vineyards, Valle d’Aosta is Italy’s smallest winemaking region both in terms of size and production.
