“Sul Vulcano” is a declaration of love: a pure wine, fragrant and elegant, that lets you breathe the energy of this unique place located in the center of the Mediterranean.

"A gourmet wine with structure. Intense and smoky, this shows jasmine, green apples and yellow peaches. The palate is vibrant, electric and fresh with an almost tannic texture. Zesty and mineral, it’s just a bit leaner on the finish." - James Suckling, 92 Points

Vinified through the ancient “Governo Toscano” method with Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile grapes slightly over-ripe by drying about 15%.

Ageing for 24 months in barrels (70% “botte”, 30% “tonneaux”) and then refines at least 12 months in glass.

"2016 was a kind of "old school" vintage: a regular season, slightly late maturation and a season finale with some rain. The result is a more elegant Sangiovese than ever which enhances its mineral and spicy tones." - #26 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2021

"Aromas of plum, violet and tobacco are front and center along with a whiff of camphor on this fragrant, savory red. The smooth, enveloping palate has a weightless quality, featuring spiced blueberry, dried cherry and licorice framed in tightly knit but elegant tannins." - Wine Enthusiast, 94 Points

Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history and artistic legacy. As the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, the region has an incredible art and architecture heritage.
Tuscany is certainly the most famous of all Italian regions for its wines. Sangiovese reigns in all its forms in the vineyards of Chianti but also Montepulciano and Montalcino.
It is also the land of the Super Tuscan, the Bordeaux blend style that laid the foundation of some of the greatest Italian wines.
As a pairing with these wines, Tuscany cuisine is based on simplicity but high quality and certainly topped with Tuscan olive oil, recognized all over the world.

Vineyard about 2 hectares in Eastern Sicily, on the northern slope of Etna, in the Marchesa district at Castiglione di Sicilia.

Altitude approximately 750 m above sea level; the lava soil has a sandy texture, a subacid-neutral pH, with a good organic endowment. Deep, rich in minerals, the lava soil allows for a significant expansion of the root system. This area north of the volcano is characterized by lower rainfall than the other slopes of Etna. Summers are cool, characterized by strong temperature changes between day and night. Due to its location, Contrada Marchesa is well ventilated and sunny; is set in a natural amphitheater surrounded by thousand-year-old slopes with little vegetation (“nude”), which accentuates the temperature range. In this district temperatures are averagely colder, and ripening is later.

"The Donnafugata 2019 Etna Rosso Contrada Marchesa offers obvious oak spice, especially at this early stage, and the wine will certainly need more time in bottle, even just another year, to develop. There is dark fruit and blackcurrant, but also cinnamon and sweet nutmeg. The finish is dense and structured." – Wine Advocate, 93 Points

Grape: 100% Nerello Mascalese

Bordeaux

Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, is home to some of the most famous châteaux in the world of wine. Their exceptional terroir and superlative wines have long reigned as some of the most sought after and investment-worthy.

The majority of Bordeaux wines are dry, red blends from Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon or Cabernet-Franc.

The finest (and most expensive) of these come from the great châteaux of the Left Bank (higher in tannins, alcohol and acidity, more on Cabernet) like Pauillac, Margaux, St Estephe or St Julien and the Right Bank (softer, less tannic and lower in alcohol and acidity. Merlot is the dominant grape), appellations of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. They are complemented by high-quality white wines (particularly from Pessac-Leognan) and the sweet, botrytized nectars of Sauternes.

The François family, which settled in Tuscany in the 18th century, has owned the Castello di Querceto estate since 1897.
Since then, they have played a vital role in the development of the Tuscan wine industry. In 1924, Castello di Querceto was one of the 33 founding members of the Chianti Classico Consortium.
The vineyards sit at 470 metres above sea level and extend over 190 hectares, of which 60 hectares are planted with vines. These 60 hectares are divided into 22 different lots, individually chosen for their specific micro-climatic characteristics.
Since 1978, the company has been directed by Alessandro François who ensures that the characteristics and potential of each vineyard are reflected in every wine he produces.

Thanks to the nice ripeness of the grapes, this “cuvee" offers strong aromas of black fruits and elegant wood provided by the French barrels. Can enjoy the complexity of this full-bodied, spicy and generous wine. The tannins are ripe, rich and perfectly integrated.

"This dense wine offers a firm series of tannins and smoky, dark-chocolate flavors that show wood aging as well as solid extraction. All these elements need time, so drink from 2022." Wine Enthusiast

From the old vines of the estate (43 year old on average)

Grape: 68% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon
